Garrigues collaborates on Guide to Corporate Ethics Management Systems
In July 2011 Spain’s Sustainability Excellence Club created a Corporate Governance Committee seeking to promote good governance at Spain’s large corporations, focusing especially on companies’ codes of conduct or codes of ethics and on the different tools available, in the field of good governance and corporate responsibility, to encourage ethical conduct within organizations. Garrigues’ Corporate Governance area has participated in that Committee from the onset, updating the Committee members on the main legislative developments and trends –in Spain and abroad– in the field of corporate governance.
The idea for the Guide to Corporate Ethics Management Systems, which was recently published by the Club in collaboration with Garrigues and sponsored by Red Eléctrica de España, arose within the Committee. The Guide aims to help companies design and implement (or review and improve) their ethics management systems, precisely in the present crisis setting where ethics is at the forefront of society’s demands of both public authorities and private companies. It also includes the findings of a questionnaire conducted at 28 leading companies on the implementation of ethics management systems within their organizations, to illustrate the current state of play in Spain.
The Guide was presented at a ceremony held in Garrigues’ auditorium and attended by Elvira Rodríguez, the president of the Spanish Securities Market Commission (CNMV), José Folgado, the chairman of Red Eléctrica de España, Fernando Vives, managing partner at Garrigues, Juan Alfaro, general secretary of the Club, and Sergio González Galán, a partner at Garrigues and the coordinator of the Guide.
